EVITA Everyone in Larchmont seems to know her. The Dish wanted to know why. Over a cup of tea, I sat down with Evita Dodel, a fascinating woman with three passions: her children, world travel, and massage therapy. Born in Uruguay, Evita spent most of her life in Israel before moving to Larchmont 8 years ago. During her time in Israel, Evita served with the Israeli Army and then worked in a hospital where she received extensive training in massage therapy and reflexology. She is gifted with a pair of healing hands that brought great comfort to sick patients. Evita decided to leave her life in Israel behind so that her three sons could receive an American education. She settled in Larchmont without knowing a single person. That soon changed as word got out about the woman with the incredible healing hands. Today she has quite a local following. (As an aside, Evita insisted that I sample her massage techniques. After very little arm-twisting, I obliged. Let’s just say it was an extraordinary experience. It's not a term I use lightly). While Evita loves to perform massage therapy, she also enjoys teaching it. Several clients have expressed an interest in learning some basic massage techniques to use at home for those times when a spouse returns from a stressful day at work with a knotted neck or a family member needs relief from minor aches and pains. In response, Evita is offering private one-hour classes on massage fundamentals for two people (couples, family members, friends, etc). The cost is $25 per person and interested parties should contact Evita via email at evitadodel55@gmail.com. More

HAIR-RAISER FOR HOPE Two years ago Gisele Guerrero arrived at HOPE Community Services with bags of food that her clients had donated during a food drive at her Larchmont salon. She was moved by what she saw. She offered to give free haircuts to the homeless people who use HOPE’s services. Those efforts have continued and Haircuts for HOPE is now officially a non-profit organization, which Gisele hopes to take nationwide someday. In the meantime, a celebration is in order. On Wednesday Haircuts for Hope celebrates its two year anniversary at Vintage 1891 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Several neighboring businesses are pitching in to make this a fun and special evening. Donations include food and sweets from Auray Gourmet and Sweet Teez; flowers from The Flower Bar; and raffle prizes from Addison Street Spa, Angel Nails, Designer One, Espana, Gisele’s Salon, Harry's Burritos, Palmer Art, Post Wine and Spirits, Tequila Sunrise, and Vintage 1891. Two unique raffle prizes, a 2 hour photo session with a photographer and a weekend getaway to the Adirondacks, are being donated by Gisele’s clients. Tickets are $45 (includes two drinks and apps) per person and may be purchased in advance at Gisele’s Salon or at the door. More
