THE WELCOME WAGON
LOVE SHOES Shoes, glorious shoes! The Love Shoes store opened over the weekend. For those of us who grew up buying our school shoes at Plaza Bootery, the transformation of the space is simply stunning. The old storefront was replaced with big windows and new paint. The blond wood flooring and cream colored walls brighten up the interior, and the new high ceilings make the space seem so much larger. The store is divided into two distinct sections. The children’s section is in the back marked by a colorful area rug where kids can try on numerous brands of “back to school” shoes while watching their favorite Nickelodeon shows on TV. Instead of balloons (a Plaza Bootery tradition), dum dum lollipops and tattoos are the signature treats. In the front of the store resides the sophisticated and “Girly Girl” shoe section for women. Famous quotes by shoe lovers Carrie Bradshaw and Marilyn Monroe adorn the walls and a sparkling chandelier makes a dramatic centerpiece. The glass shelves are stocked with popular brands like Michael Kors, Stuart Weitzman, Cole Haan, Uggs and many, many other brands at different price points. Owner Ellie DeVito, who also owns Love By Bella Fiora next door, is excited about her new store. She is in the midst of a “soft opening” so that children can stop in to buy their school shoes. Women’s shoes are arriving and most of the fall stock should be available within 2 weeks. While shoes are the focal point, Ellie also intends to offer hats, scarves, jewelry and handbags. Visit Love Shoes at 1910 Palmer Avenue.
