BACK TO SCHOOL SPECIAL The Golden Shoestring opens tomorrow with a celebration from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Come early for coffee and donuts. Enjoy an exclusive ”Back to School” Special: Buy three children’s items, and get the fourth, lowest priced item for FREE! Customers will also have the opportunity to shop for other fall merchandise for women and men, including a designer rack, jewelry, shoes and beautiful household items. The Golden Shoestring is a thrift store owned and operated by the Junior League of Westchester on the Sound. REGATTA This weekend the Larchmont Yacht Club is hosting the inaugural Leukemia Cup Regatta to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. An exciting series of sailing events are planned for Saturday and Sunday. Sailors and interested donors can find more information here.

STORYWALK The Town of Mamaroneck is celebrating its 350th Anniversary this month with a series of events. The celebration kicks off with a StoryWalk down Palmer Avenue to read Sarah Morton’s Day: A Day in the Life of a Pilgrim Girl. As the title suggests, Kate Waters’ book is about a typical day in the life of a Pilgrim girl living in 17th century New England. StoryWalk starts on Saturday and runs through September 25th. Maps are available at Larchmont Library.

CLAMBAKE Summer is winding down, but there’s still time for one more beach party. Manor Park Beach holds its annual Clambake on Saturday. Residents living in the Property Map 610 area, beach members and their guests can enjoy an "all you can eat" seafood buffet. Reservations must be made in advance.

FAMILY FUN The Larchmont Newcomers' Club is kicking off the new season on Saturday, noon to 2 p.m. with their annual Family event at Flint Park. There will be pizza and plenty of entertainment for the kids including arts & crafts and live music by Laca Tines of Sing and Celebrate. Tickets are $8 per person and kids under 2 are FREE. SNIP, SNIP Vieira Organics is finally getting their ribbon cutting ceremony after the one scheduled over the summer was canceled. Join Mayor Mandell, Deputy Mayor Eney and those big scissors on Saturday at 10 a.m. Vieira Organics is located at 1969A Palmer Avenue. All are welcome to attend.

RECREATION Now is the time to register for hockey, ice skating, tennis, swimming and other recreation programs. Check out the Town of Mamaroneck’s Fall/Winter Recreation catalog online.
IN HONOR OF MARCO Little Larchmonter Marco Bruschi has a form of Craniosynostosis called Trigoncephaly. On September 14th he is scheduled to have surgery at Montefiore Children's Hospital in the Bronx. In honor of Marco, his home parish St. Augustine Church is holding a blood drive on Thursday, 4 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the French American School cafeteria. GIVE BLOOD The Larchmont Fire Department is holding a blood drive on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to benefit the Sound Shore Medical Center. In addition to replenishing local blood supplies (Irene caused a serious shortfall), the firefighters are dedicating this year’s blood drive to those who perished on 9/11. Please help spread the word. The firefighters are hoping for a big turnout.

9/11 Memorial The 10 year anniversary of 9/11 will be marked by a ceremony on Sunday to remember and honor victims from Larchmont and Mamaroneck. The ceremony takes place at Girl Scout Rock (across the street from Memorial Park) at 1 p.m. This year Girl Scouts from Troop 2056 are adding two benches to the park as part of their “9/11: Sit and Reflect” project. All in the community are encouraged to attend.

9/11 INTERFAITH SERVICE Larchmont Temple is hosting an interfaith community gathering to remember the victims of 9/11 on Sunday at 7 p.m. in the Sanctuary. Local clergy from Larchmont's various Houses of Worship will lead a sacred remembrance, Psalms of reflection, songs of hope and a prayer for renewal. All are welcome to attend.


RISING FROM THE ASHES


A sculpture created from steel recovered at the World Trade Center by Larchmont’s renowned artist Paolo Corvino. This sculpture is being donated to the sculpture garden at the 9/11 Memorial in lower Manhattan.
